Orientalism, Disorientation, and the “Other Side of the World”

This paper examines orientalism and its repercussions in the field of Late Antiquity. Instead treating as a textual phenomenon, I argue that it is continuous experiential process comes result encountering texts, objects, others. take examples from familiar academic practices institutions—translations, editions, archeology, museums, digitization, etc.—all which are related to access this field. Discourses on progress sometimes cloud ethical moral issues these practices, we have inherited older generations Western scholars. show how modern efforts approaches remain insufficient some cases, more importantly they primarily benefit scholars or located West. article, thus, aims point out their shortcomings critique prevailing optimistic narrative justice hopes inciting productive dialogue about knowledge production.
